Kayla

Halfway through I turned it off. That has never happened to a Tubi movie in my household. This was the first movie I didn’t like on Tubi. It could’ve been so much better than it was. This movie was very slow fast. I know, I know Tubi movies are supposed to only be an hour and a half long. But when I tell you this movie left so much out and felt rushed but slow moving. In the beginning, it was next day activities then bam 3 months later. But the character relationships were still not progressing and the ones that had progressed we saw no interactions or conversations, so we didn’t see the progression in any way, and we barely heard about it. Then text conversations we didn’t need, we saw and the ones we did need, nothing.

The character that the movie was named after barely had scenes. We didn’t learn the name of the character that seemed to be the main character until 37 minutes into the movie. Yes, I watched 39 minutes of a movie that was an hour and 10 minutes long. I couldn’t take it anymore.

Now what we did know from the first scene Kayla was in is that she was going to be crazy.  But learning why she was crazy and seeing more of her reason throughout the movie would have given more depth to the character. She just jumped out the gate being crazy and predictable.

The male lead, Julian, was also predictable and Kayla kind of fell into his game. She busted it open on the 2nd meeting which was at his house during a party after telling him to kick everyone out. That scene was weird too because in the scene before it they met at the club, she got his numbers, and she said she would use it. This scene which is next scene she was walking into his house party grabbing a drink, inviting him to a smash session, and then saying they met the night before. Fast forward 2 or 3 scenes, that she wasn’t in mind you, they were at the park playing ball with his children.  Next scene Kayla was in she was saying she babysits the children almost everyday since meeting them.

In between Kayla’s very sparse scenes we see who looks to be the main character, Ashley, and her baby father. We find out that she and the father have recently separated and he was still healing while she was trying to enjoy being single and starting a new job. She also had a best friend whose intentions are bit questionable based on her actions.

The best friend agreed to go out with her in the very first scene then when time came she called her and backed out right before. They reschedule the night out and when it comes she was chilling and not long after Julian arrives she walks away, sits with a guy, comes back drunk and say she’s ready to go, and then talks shit at the car door instead of just getting in the truck. I didn’t watch long enough to find out what’s up with the friend. BUT I feel like the friend is fucking somebody and when it comes to these Tubi movies I’m rarely wrong.

The night when Julian and Kayla met at the club, Julian walked up on Ashley first and without exchanging names he asked for her Instagram. Kayla caught it and immediately started hating. So 3 months after the initial club Julian and Ashley start dating, Kayla finds out by creeping through the man’s phone. She starts to stalk Ashley’s Instagram.

Then in the last scene I saw Kayla was walking into Ashley’s baby father’s house and I turned it OFF. I knew they were going to end up knowing each other, they kiss so they’re fucking. Now while my messy ass wants to know how, why, and all the things. I couldn’t take anymore of the slow talking, or the slow fast storyline so that was it for me.

I’m shocked I ran into a movie that I didn’t like! Tubi has a pretty good track record with me, so somebody call Paul because I was appalled and wasted my good 30 minutes on that. I just knew when I saw the last skinned dude who plays Julian that the movie was going to be worth a watch but he’s finally played in his first bad movie that I’ve seen.

If you have seen this, tell me your thoughts please. Also, let me know if you think it’s worth finishing and why. Then and only then will I consider finishing it but as of right now it’s a HELL naw for me.

Ya’ll be easy, not for me but for you and yours. Don’t forget to brush your tongue and mind your business. I’ll talk to you in the next one my friend, PEACE!
